high pitched noise coming from laptop

Thread Starter
my laptop emits a high pitched noise from the right corner by the screen. this noise was there from the beginning so i dont think anythings broken. it sounds to me like its too high a frequency for a fan. it disappears when i run the built in windows benchmark, so im thinking it could be some kind of a power saving state on one of the components?

has anyone ever heard of something like this before?

wanted to post an update.
it is related to screen actually. the noise completely disappears when the brightness is turned up to the max setting. it gets progressively louder as i lower the brightness. and actually the screen does get really bright sometimes, and then returns to normal.

should i give acer a call?
