Finalize my build: GTX570/6950/6850 x-fire/460 SLI

Thread Starter
I just purchased the Haf-x and the C300 SSD today. The last piece is the hardest: Video card. Not sure which way to go here. I game on a 24" 1920x1200 Monitor, but would like to move to a 40" in the future. The 570 is $349, the 6950 is $284 after rebate and the 6850's would be about $300, same with the 460's.

I play starcraft 2, Dragonage, Left 4 dead 2 and pretty much the latest game that looks good. Will probably get into Shogun 2 etc. Thoughts? Thanks!

even if you move on to a 40'' if the resolution is the same, the stress that it gives the gpu should be equal to a 24'' (i think). i say get the 6950 quick so that you might have a chance to unlock to a 6970

Well, I do have a Q6600 and a 4870 and have had no problems. I am trying to see if the GTX570 is worth the extra $50-60 over the 6950.

I have to say go for the 570...I have it in my machine and it runs everything...Plus if you get into the folding scene, then it will work like a beast...

I was actually thinking about folding. Also, I like the lifetime warranty on the EVGA and have had them in the past and was very pleased.

The Fermi cores are better for folding (from what I've read) which influenced my decision in buying a GTX460. I believe that the "fermi" CUDA core is what is in the Tesla super computer cards. I know ATI works best with AMD's. (nearly same Co.) And would figure that there is some collaboration between Intel and Nividia, but can't remember where I read this.. anywho, I'm with strider, Nivida For The Win.

The ony game I have that placed any strees on my GTX570 is Crysis. On a single card it runs about 10fps slower than on a GTX460 768SLI combo at 1080p, all setting high.

So I am up in the air if I should go back to a 460SLI combo in one computer and a 580 in the other, it was faster (460sli), costs less, made less noise, and less heat. The only down side on the 768mb cards were I could see some lag to load detail in very fast moving action. This did not drop frame rate just you could see the detail emerge. Now the 570SLI combo has no issue at all, but is it worth $700+ compared to $300?
