Mine isn't EN plating, I purchased and installed it 18 months ago. I don't think I'll RMA it since I will be buying Nvidia's next top end GPU, I don't want to be inconvenienced for any amount of time. My temps are as they were when I first installed my EK water block, its still doing its job. Does EK have a deadline for warranty replacement on nickel plating issues other than the usual 24 months?

So, nickel blocks are bad, how about EK's copper blocks?

Also, sorry for necropost, I am just curious.

Copper is fine. It was just the nickel plating that was failing. smile.gif

Hehe, no worries about necro. Its gotten a lot better since their "EN" blocks but there are still few reports coming in. Copper is perfectly fine. If you want to run EK nickel: get their "EN' blocks and use their prescribed coolant/liquid and biocide suggestions.

Well, my current Vanilla Cherries rig has two FC6870s in it, both of which are the "EN" blocks, and I haven't checked them for damage yet. I've been running distilled water and PT Nuke, and I've drained the loop out twice in the last two months. When I replace my 6950s with a 7970, at the end of this week, I'll let you guys know if there is any noticeable damage. One thing to comment on, my idle temps used to be 34C, but they've gone up to 40C in the last few weeks. Max load temps are still at 47C, but I don't know why the idle temps have risen so high.

With "EN" blocks I dident get recommended to use Silver coil or PT nuke at all. So if you got "EN" blocks id use pre mixed liquid anyway

Try remounting the blocks. When i had this issue, I remounted and/or reapplied tim and it worked smile.gif

This, they don't recommend silver or pt.nuke. Its mainly for warranty purposes. If your nickel craps out and they find you used these, you may get denied.

Quick question. Would it be possible to remove the nickel plating from a water block and polish the copper to simply turn it into a copper-only water block? Seems simple enough to me but I wanted to be sure.

Why would you want to? eh-smiley.gif

Seems like an awfulot of trouble to go through just to run a copper block. If you want copper just get copper. If you cannot get copper contact EK and see if you can get them to swap out Nickel for Copper base. I'm not a fan of shiny nickel but I wouldn't ruin it to remove it. I have my eye on 6870 blocks but they only come in EN so if I do go with 6870 next, I'm stuck with EN block. I can live with that since that's all there is. Also stays nice and clean looking when people view my system. Since I'm already running Formula Full Coverage block it won't hurt as much. tongue.gif
