I had rma'd one block before this thing exploded in a big ar$e issue and I had to ship it to Slovenia. It took a week for it to arrive and another week and half for the replacement arrive. I'm not sure if they are still receiving these back to their location in Slovenia or if they are working with local Retailers to rma. Also, I'm unsure whether they are scrutinizing your block before they make a determination to send a replacement. They paid for the shipping as they wanted to inspect my block. Sadly the replacement crapped out within a week rolleyes.gif

EK has refined this down to ship back to seller. I'm not sure but I don't believe that Mr. Pie's blocks are EN. Not that EN haven't had any issues, I just don't recall him saying that they are EN blocks. I might have missed something but as of right now I don't think so. thinking.gif

Anyway yes, if you have an RMA issue(at least here in the States) you're supposed to ship back to Seller and I guess they inspect and replace after confirming with EK, depending on whether they have the replacement in stock. If it's not in stock and it's within the 2 year warranty period they're supposed to deal with it. Now remember this is in a perfectly logical world. Not that real world is logical nor perfect. wink.gif

My non-EN FC-480 block is under warranty until June 1st, I don't know if I should do it or not, who knows even if EK have anymore FC-480 blocks. The only thing that will hurt me is when I try and sell this GTX 480 card with water block, anyone know if I could do an advanced rma so I won't be inconvenienced for 2 weeks?

Is that an EN block? You can tell if the nickel plating is of good quality, if it looks like yours to where the plating looks (very shiny) like it was painted on then it's not so good. A good plating job looks a bit more (Koolance blocks) dull and that's because the nickel is being absorbed into the tiny microscopic pores of the metal, under an electron microscope it would look like the Grand Canyon.

Ek is using an electroless plating method for their new "EN" models. Now, based on what they said, my limited knowledge in plating, and contacting a local plating shop: Electroless does have a duller/matte look to it where as the traditional electrode plating results in a shinier finish. I do recall EK's announcement noting that the new EN process does not produce a high shine like the old plating method. Now, I watched a few plating vids on youtube and I can see a bit of difference between both and when i contacted a local company that plates, the rep confirmed that electroless is more durable (especially for water applications) but it does not have the higher shine as electrode plating.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge in plating can chime in and help out thumb.gif

It's non EN. The EN are duller in shine due to the process I thought, not the quality.

After 1 year:

450

It's all the way down to the copper now. I think it is strange that this is only happening in the middle section. It doesn't seem like flaking is the issue here. I think a form of crevice corrosion is happening, but I'm only familiar with the stainless steal type in a marine environment.

Same thing happened to mine. Its areas where the liquid will have a chance to settle as opposed to flow. Strange but seems like its where it eats away at the nickel.
