As for EK, well, I'm glad I decided to not buy their stuff after reading the initial post in this thread. And as for R3, and their test, it just confirms that EK is trying to screw its customers out of money while having sub-par work done on their products.

Heatkiller. Will probably be my replacement blocks if FrozenCPU joins Sidewinder in returns of EK blocks.

Yes, they're Heatkillers. I was going with the Alphacool but I decided to go with HK since they offer this bridge. I wish Gary would have had AC 6970/6950 blocks, I would have purchased them from him. Only place I found that has the ac blocks are aquatuning.us and they charge a lot of sales tax. Can't wait for them to arrive, should be by the end of next week.

I know. That's unfortunate for me.

Aquacomputer makes 3 different AquagratiX blocks for 3 different 5850 PCB layouts.

Not exactly their best looking blocks though...

Ah, when I was researching a while ago they only had 2 blocks, 1 for ref design and 1 for non-ref (that wasn't compatible for my PCB). So thanks for the info.

Looks like my lastest block set has the nickel problem. This is a pair of GTX580 blocks that where bought on 4/17/2011. This was a pure distilled loop, no additives of any kind. I usually replace the water every 2 months.

The first block has the bad looking nickel in the middle and issues around the o-ring trough.

The middle section:

There are some interesting color patterns around the inlet and outlet holes. I don't know if you can see it from the picture, but there are blue stream a long the path of water from the holes.

Something interesting I saw here: there is exposed copper on this section of the o-ring trough. The copper color is visible to me, but might not be in the picture. The nickel does not appear to have been lost on this section. I would believe that this a bad plate job, plain and simple.

The second block was not so bad. The middle section has some blue discoloring, but it was not permanent. The o-ring channels though where the same as the other block.

A look at the acetal cover where the o-ring hit. Kind of looks like rust.

And the o-ring channel.

Regardless of how EK eventually handles this situation, I'm done with them as a customer.
blue is oxidized copper.
ugly and awful

Well so far mine have been holding up pretty good they still look like new and they been used for over a year now.
I think the EK blocks that are really bad must of had aluminum or something in the loop also...
