Im planning to buy MetalX B-929 and test-sacrifice my ram block in the interest of the affected community. Really, its a bling block and was the least expensive ~$45 usd. If it works, I will post my results and methods to help those in need of stripping the nickel. Sandblasting will be done if the b-929 fails to successfully remove the nickel.

If any one else is taking such endeavors to strip the nickel off their blocks and are successful, please share as well.

Mine was under distilled for 10 days. I don't think time is relevant.

The block Rubidium tested never went underwater and it show immediate signs of bad plating and exposed copper. Under the microscope, it reinforced the issue at hand of bad nickel on EK blocks.

Yep, it seems to be a problem for people who bought their blocks late last year to now.

For example Wermad bought one of his blocks that were affected around December I think?

Something had to have happened around that time, whether it be plating process or something else.

Thats why I put on the other thread about seeing batch numbers and production dates of blocks effected

This is labeled as unofficial to ensure no confusion, BUT it does not dismiss its relevance in its findings by Rubidium.

Thanks guys, LMK if there is more info that I can update to the op. I'm going to clean it up a bit to ensure proper info is being accessed immediately by readers in the op.

There's this - http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/sidew...te06042011.pdf

And this - http://www.realredraider.com/vbullet...ad.php?t=47617

I've searched the thread and neither URL's showed up, so others refrain from the useless comments.

-EK supreme HF nickel/plexi - bought on 07/2010
-Ek fc-470 (2x) - bought 09/2010
-EK MB RE3 - bought preowned on 12/2010 (3 months old then per previous owner)
-EK fc 470 (third) - purchased on 12/2010, This one failed immediately within one month.
-EK fc-470 RMA, this one was received in March, showed signs of failure after 2-3 months.

It seems the older blocks were progressively failing, while some other blocks failed quickly. I think batch may not have to do with this. i had heard of completely failed nickel blocks before I got my gpu blocks. stories started pouring in in January of this year as soon as I started complaining and got EK to rma this block.

BTW: since I no longer have any need for EK or their support, Gregory advised me that they tested a block (early May) for a few weeks and they found "surprising" results and want to further evaluate the issue. Never once there was any designation of an official and technical investigation done by a lab by EK. I suspect the lab investigation may really have not taken too long to complete but EK and Eddy may have been stalling it to keep us in the dark. Yeah, I'm pissed, so I'm venting and ranting, excuse me though
