EK got back to me, they're not honoring me any exchange/rma on my new blocks, since there are no corrosion found on the blocks.................maybe i should let them corrode first

No, had they not had shoddy plating we wouldn't have this problem. They are right in theory, but distilled water does not stay non-conductive for very long (ie. dust/ions find there way in there) unless it remains within a sealed environment. This is not the first or last time they put the majority of the blame on the customer.

Maybe they should include a bottle of ethylene glycol with all of their nickel-plated blocks from now on.

That stuff is corrosive. Introduce it into a system containing any aluminum and see what happens. Especially for those people who are lazy about changing their fluids. lol

better yet mayb they should provide a heatsink and fan and tell you to use that and keep the blocks inside the boxes they come in away from any form of liquid or humidity

Really? Because every engine I deal with uses this in the coolant and they are all aluminum. I think you need to check on that. Auto coolant is not just ethylene glycol. Most now a days have silicates or other corrosion inhibitors, which is used for aluminum engines.

Ever seen an old FIAT motor? Pitted like the bejesus. I had to replace the head in my old X1/9 cause the pitting was so bad that the engine wasn't getting cooled properly.

Now I did get the vehicle used so I cannot vouch for their records but the service log showed that it got it's regularly scheduled maintenance by the first owner. I was the fourth owner. The 3rd owner couldn't get it running so I'm reasonably sure he didn't muck it up. Can't vouch for the 2nd owner though. So I'm reasonably sure this is where things took a turn for the worse.

he was responding to just the ethylene glycol comment. EG by itself is more corrosive than water to AL. But yes, auto coolant is EG with typically 4 to 8 inhibitors. His point was EG is not what you want, it is the inhibitors, and yes when, like you said, you add the inhibitors, ie auto coolant your fine. Here is one such chart from here, the inhibited PG is similar to inhibited EG.

A lot of the older engines used incompatible metals, like cast iron blocks, copper gaskets and aluminum heads all together, but with newer gaskets and coatings, this should not be a problem. I know what your talking about though. Its usually pitting or white corrosion on the aluminum parts, but thats after a few years. You should try the VW/Audi coolant G12+ or G12++. It's designed for aluminum use. We just superceded all the old stuff to this coolant. Hell, we got G13 coolant now and I gotta figure out changed, LOL!

But I'll leave it at that, as to not get off topic too much.

Yes, but also read into it more. It's at high temperature. That chart shows 190F. We're never gonna see that temp in your loop.

Yes, several companies list PDF files showing fairly linear corrosion rate increases with temp as one would expect, and rates at both will be less at lower temp, but point was EG is more corrosive than water, given the same temp, for aluminum and several other metals. So providing pure EG isnt helpful. Providing inhibitors is another issue.
