difference between the mcp655 models

can someone tell me if the tach sensor model lets you have a "failsafe" by plugging it into a fan header and if it shuts off the computer will shut off? kinda like the mcp355's?

And is the one with the variable speed not able to do this?

If your mobo will do a shutdown on CPU fan failure it will work. If it doesn't you can do it with software in windows, I've used Speedfan and Everest (now AIDA64) to moitor a pump RPM through a mobo fan header and shutdown my PC if it stops.

I'm not sure if there's a variable model that has a tacho wire, neither of mine do.

can you tell me if there is a reason (noise wise) to get the variable speed version?

Is there a difference between how loud they are?

I concerned about noise and vibration by the way.

Both are completely silent at full speed. I really don't know why they even make a variable speed pump. I haven't encountered any situation where the pump was pumping too much water.

If you are debating on which to get, definitely get the 655-B over the variable speed version. The 655-B is cheaper and has a Tach. sensor built in. The variable speed 655 is just a weird product, and I'm not sure why swiftech even makes it (kind of like their stackable rads).

If your worried about having a "Fail-safe" you can just solder on your own tach for the vario. Here is a link http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=234698&page=2
