Why is everyone getting so power mad and insulting within this thread. I asked how to achieve a decent large apeture image.... and i achieved it.

end already. Have you got nothing else better to do than look for someone who you can team up against. If you don't have anything decent to say to others in future, don't post. Your adding fuel to the fire just because you can. How very sad indeed.

Large aperture = smaller f number.

Put it in A mode and turn the wheel.

It's because you post about how your pictures are "brilliant" and "better than others". Speaking from the POV of someone reading these posts, it comes off as a bit arrogant truthfully. Your pictures are better than most I've seen with a point and shoot, but as far as photography goes, they could be much better. The way you talk about it however, I get the feeling that you think it's absolutely amazing and is a masterpiece. I'm not sure if that's what you intended the tone to sound like, but that's the message many of us are getting from your posts. It's great that you're proud of your own products and I wouldn't want to take away that from you since it's the same feeling that drives us all to pursue photography as our hobbies, but you might want to watch how you convey those emotions because they could come off differently than you intended and rub people the wrong way.

I think you have all read my comments and obtained the wrong understanding. I did not say my photo was "better than everyone elses" by saying it's brillaint. That's the issue with reading comments off the internet. We do not know the emotion or tone of voice so we interpret our own, which is usually wrong. Some will read this and see an angry comment whilst others may read this and interpet a soft voice.

Seems like he was using the royal 'brilliant' -- not the American brilliant. I didn't really read all that tone into what you posted, and FWIW the DOF photo of the acorn was pretty nice for a P&S for sure.

That being said, I can see the call for slightly different composition. The most common thing I see people using when talking about composition is the tic tac toe lines -- lining up your subject along one of the lines as a rule of thumb usually leads to a more appealing composition.

Keep it up There's always room for improvement -- if there wasn't, then there's no use for school.

i dont understand why everyone is so worked up over him saying its a good picture, its exposed properly, its got a bit of bokeh and he likes it.

to get thinner DOF you need to set it to aperture priority and set the camera to f2.8. the lens on that fuji is 2.8 only at the widest setting so you need to zoom all the way out. then get as close to the object as you can and still have it focus.

good luck
