ram not compatible but stll run?

Thread Starter
I have got an CMX4GX3M1A1333C9 ram and p55-usb3 mobo.

On corsair website the ram is not listed as compatible to this mobo but before I knew I was already running them both, the ram got recognize and all.

So my question is, if the ram is not listed as compatible but still run, what will happens?

Here are the mobo and ram spec if needed.

Mobo
Memory Type: DDR3
Memory Supported: 800MHz DDR3
1066MHz DDR3
1333MHz DDR3
2200MHz DDR3
Number of Slots: 4
Maximum Memory Supported: 16GB
Max. Memory Supported Per Slot: 4GB

ram
Memory Type: DDR3
Memory Speed: PC10666
Memory Speed MHz: 1333MHz
Memory Size: 4096MB
Total memory Size: 4GB
Memory Modules: 1
Memory Channels: Dual
Memory Socket: DIMM
Memory CAS Latency: 9
Memory Timing: 9-9-9-24

Just because the RAM is not listed in their compatible list means nothing. Generally all DDR3 RAM is compatible in almost all DDR3 compatible motherboards. There are hundreds of different modules of RAM, they just don't have the time nor the resources to test every single module that is ever released. Personally I would think it'd make more sense to have an incompatibility list.

I wouldn't be concerned, if it works it works.

you should check if the mobo added the correct speed, voltage and latency to your ram.
i had a similiar thing on my board and the mobo simply ran my ram kind of underclocked.
-> edit ram in bios manually = everythings fine

If it runs then it is compatible.
There is no such thing as incompatible with a system that will still function.

Motherboard manufacturer really can't test EVERY SINGLE STICK on the market to ensure functionality. Memory standards were created and adhered to, unless you are looking at some crazy exotic sticks, if it's DDR3 you're good to go.

bios will always run RAM in safe settings 1333mhz with rated cas or higher cas . At least all the one I had in the past.

there's some ram having advertisment saying design for core I5 etc ... never bought one so I can't be sure if they would still work fine on another set-up.

My Mushkins are also not included in the compatibility list. Nevertheless, they run great and OC like champs.
