Looking to build a quiet mATX server for file + LAMP stack functions. I'm currently using a NAS appliance and a little laptop running fedora, and would like to integrate it into a small mATX mobo server running fedora linux.

Thinking of the bottome end core i3, should wipe any dual core atom or athlon x2's behind and still get under 300USD for mobo+cpu+ram. However does anyone know what the state of play re: linux is, been burnt too many times before with driver/chipset issues under linux.

As its for a server I am looking for at least 5 SATA ports (SSD for system, 4x2Tb RAID5, going with 7200rpm hitachis), obviously no discrete graphics or ION etc. needed.

As a useful aside, if anyone knows the state of play re: software raid and hardware spindown, and SSD compatibility (TRIM) that would be awesome

So far looking at ASUS P7H55-M-USB3
