Antec TruePower Quattro 850W

Thread Starter
Hi I have a friend with an Antec TPQ 850W, he's running a 930 @ 3.8GHz,a GTX470, 6Gb @1600MHz, 3 WD Caviar Blacks 640Gb in Raid 0 on an EVGA Mb iwch I can't remember. He's planning on upgrading to a dual GTX470 in SLI and adding 6 more Gb of RAM. He's wondering if his power supply is still good enough to handle the upgrade considering it has about 2 years of capacitor aging and also because of a certain issue the TPQ has that is specific to the 850W (don't ask me what that issue is, all I know about it is that Phaedrus mentionned in a thread which I can't remember that if you were picky, the TPQ 850 had a little issue).

What is this problem with the TPQ 850W?

And should I recommend my friend to buya better power supply for his computer that's running 24/7?

It's a really solid unit, and yes, it will power your friend's system fine if he adds a 2nd GTX 470. He can add RAM, too, that has very little bearing on power consumption. I think its main issue is that its ripple suppression is meh if it gets too hot.

Don't worry, it tries VERY HARD to not get hot by running the 80mm fan at several thousand RPM.
