And this is being, what doubled without harmful effect (assuming proper cooling.)? The TDP must be largley just the stock heatsink rating. I wonder if the next stepping SB K processors will be better overclockers, or require less voltage?
If you're asking whether Ivy Bridge will reach 5.0Ghz+, then I think no.

But for what I assume will be 6/8-core CPUs, I am sure they will overclock even better comparative to their amount of cores.

No I didn't phrase that right, usually latter versions of the same CPU get better right? I guess I am thinking of the next rev of the 2600K in say 3 months from now being a better overclcockers as they perfect their manufacturing, does this guideline still hold true?

That will only happen if they release a 'D3' revision.

And they only do that when the processor simply runs too hot, like the Q6600, or when they have nothing else on the horizon, like the i7-920 E0 or i7-930.

With Ivy Bridge.. I just don't think that will happen.

Is there an E0 version of i7-920 E0 didn't know that.

I don't think a new rev. D3 is coming anytime soon, it could be only when amd's bulldozers, if would beat SB's k...

My mistake. I was thinking of the older Yorkfield E0s.

I was referring to the D0. And yes, I doubt that there will be a D3 or x0 version of Sandy Bridge.

I also doubt that Bulldozer will give Intel a run for their money.. but I keep praying.

Thanks for clearing that up, I guess the obvious question is if there will be any new sandybridge processors released that are better than the 2600K, like one with a higher base clock (= better binning) and the VT features that the i2600 has. I honestly don't believe IB will be an upgrad pathe for cougar point owners. I guess I would be surprised if the i2600K is the final top of the line CPU for cougar point.

I think it's likely.

Intel only upgrades its flag-ship socket, such as the 1366, with the 920, then D0 920, then 930, then 950, then 960, not to mention 970, 980, 990 and lastly 995.

If you look at socket 1156 that launched with the i7-860 and i7-870.
Eight months later, we received the i7-875k and the i7-880. And that's it.

Since Intel has already released 'K' unlocked processors for Sandy Bridge on 1155, and given that 8 months after their release will be too close to Ivy Bridge.. I think it's safe to say that there is really nothing on the horizon for Sandy Bridge.

On the other hand, there are rumors that there will be Ivy Bridge processors for 1155, but that has not been confirmed.

In the end, Ivy Bridge is the only thing up ahead.

.
doubtful these would be better than the i2600K, I mean why release a highend IB CPU for a MB that doesn't have PCIE3.

Because PCIe 2.0 doesn't hinder CPU performance and most people don't care about it.

You'd see 0% gain from PCIe 3.0 with today's cards.

It would be nice if 1155 had an upgrade path to 28nm CPUs.

But personally, I agree. 2011 is where it's at. It's also when it's at

U cannot just tell 0% performance, it does give some performance benefit.

Like will a PCIe 1.0-1.1 card will provide 0% advantage over PCIe 2.0 slot ?

No, It does provide some extra performance with PCIe 2.0 & its same with PCIe 3.0 too bcoz the CPU too will provide extra juice.

About PCIe 3.0
Intel will not just release a full fledged PCIe 3.0, it could be partial(Specs are PCIe 3.0 but the speed would be as PCIe 2.0) PCIe 3.0 the thing which follows latter will get better.
