Updating motherboard drivers?

When updating motherboard drivers for AMD boards, do you have to remove the prior driver before installing the new one?

I already updated the BIOS via ASUS update and I'm seeing they have updated the CHIPSET and LAN Drivers also on http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx for my m4a79xtd evo.

BUT I don't see the CHIPSET driver in my "control panel>add or remove programs" listing, so I'm not sure how to remove it.

I think I do see the Realtek ethernet driver though.

any help would be appreciated.

no you do no need to remove the old driver, the installation process will do it for you. All the major brands do so like AMD and realtek so dont worry about it.

you can manually uninstall drivers from device manager, not add/remove programs. Only certain drivers that have application come with them exist in add/remove programs. You can also try driversweeper, for those people who like to clean everything out.

Ah wow, no wonder I could see certain drivers in add/remove, but not others.

and I found device manager via typing in "device manager" in start>search.

...so I flashed the BIOS already, and updated my AUDIO drivers. I removed the drivers first though.

For something like the AMD CHIPSET driver, do you recommend removing that first? Or just d/l the file and run the "setup" file without removing it first?

I started to run it, and it was running this catalyst installer, it isn't going to mess anything up with my ATI catalyst control drivers that are already installed is it?

you dont need to remove the old drivers, when new drivers are installed the old ones are removed

best not to uninstall them so you can use driver rollback if needed

Since you're using AMD video cards every version of Catalyst you upgrade to will have the other drivers included. Or you can also download just the mobo drivers separately but there is really no point in doing it that way unless you use an Nvidia card. Piece of cake.
