Any chance a BIOS update might make AM3 compatible?

You can probably get 200-220 for your current cpu and motherboard as well. So thats only about $150 out of pocket!

Yes, Sir. Going to need AM3+ for Bulldozer.

I don't plan on selling my current CPU/mobo. If I were to upgrade, I'm just going to keep them for when I plan to make a new build for my brother (which the PII 965 should serve well as he mostly play racing and FPS games).

Are you really that unhappy with your sc2 performance on your current 965 + 470 ?? O_o
post #17 of 31
i wouldn't upgrade yet as you would need to buy a new mobo and cpu. You probably wont notice much more performance for gaming anyway. even if you were to wait for bulldozer the socket is AM3+ so you'd need a new mobo. sandy bridge is new so i rekon its worth waiting anyway for price drops and more sandy bridge cpus to come out.

Well... I play a lot of 2v2s and 3v3s so during big battles, the frame rate likes to drop down to the 20s which makes it really hard for me to select and control my units. Other than that, it's fine.

I do play SC2 a lot though, which is why I'd even consider upgrading just for one game.

But yeah, after hearing some of your opinions, I'm just going to stick with my current CPU.

Thanks guys.

Not worth the upgrade. And you need to reinstall OS too biggrin.gif In games no difference if you play with 1920x1080 or bigger. Okay, maybe in some games but really not worth any upgrade. I am waiting Bulldozer very much.

In that case I would hold off and see what the Bulldozers bring. Need a new MoBo and CPU either way and gaming your not gonna see a drastic improvement by making the upgrade now. Benchmarks and e-peen, yeah.
