Help: i7 980x drivers

Thread Starter
I just built my first computer and everything went pretty smooth. Except I can't figure out why the windows 7 device manager reads the processor as X 000.

I reinstalled the drivers, and that didn't change anything. There's 1 newer bios version available, but it added support for additional processors. The 980x support was included in the version I have.

Can anyone help? Does it really matter what the device manager states?

System Specs:

Rampage III Extreme
i7 980x
Corsair H70
2x EVGA GTX 465
24gb Viper Xtreme RAM
80gb SSD as my boot drive
2TB HDD
Corsair 850 PSU

Windows detected the 6cores/12 threads so I don't think that's an issue, try the newer BIOS just in case.

I just updated the INF chipset, but device manager still shows X 000.

It's an option in your bios for 2d benching that's causing it to read like that. 2d performance booster I think.

just googled "i7 980x showing as X 000" to see if i could find anything for you. seems as tho it to do with your bios. alot of people are having same problem. they all run fine. so try updating bios as mentioned. if that dont work just ignore it its work fine

I think as you say you are fine. I say that because of this section of your cpu-z screen :

That text AFAIK is grabbed directly from the CPU itself, it's hard coded in there by Intel. So if it says that there there's not much you can do about it. Everything else seems fine so I wouldn't worry about it.

problem solved! For whatever reason, if you enable 2D performance boost in the bios, windows reads the processor as X 000. I disabled it, and the name 980x appears.

Thanks for your help! Now it's time to OC this bad boy.
