My OC, need some comment

Hi,

so I've found a stable OC for my rig and want to share with u guys, too see if all it's in order.

For my i5 I found a stable 4.2 GHz with 1.35V for the vcore and 1.3 IMC. With 1.3 Vcore is failed after 1.5h of prime SFFT. With 1.35V passed SFFT overnight without problems. I think 1.35V is safe for 24/7.

IDLE temp at desktop 2-3h are (for the cores) 36-35-36-33 => avg 35 C
IDLE temps after 8-9h of prime are 39-37-38-36 => avg 37,5 C
MAX temp during Prime SFFT was 76-74-71-73 => avg 73,5 C
MAX temp after some hours of playing was around avg 50-53 C

Is this all right?

For the RAM I've tested various combinations, 1200 CL5 , CL6 and 1600 CL7 CL8.

The stock speed is 1333 CL7 1.5V

with tight latency and lower speed I got worst read, write, ingame FPS, zip and so on. So I went for a higher speed and stock latency.
I went for 1600 7-8-7-24, it was better than CL5 @ 1200 but it was unstable.
So i pump up the CAS and got to 8-8-8-24-1T 1.65V 1600MHz, here I got the most read and write speed, most FPS etc.
I did 5 passes of Memtest 86+ (about 2h) and no error occurred.

At this BCLK the next step is 2000MHz, but that is too much I think, I'm not sure if it's safe to do 1.65+V for 24/7.

So please comment, the temps and the ram speed. Would be a good idea to try pump up the ram more or it's not worth for 24/7?

And one more thing. Since I don't need 4.2GHz when I'm in the desktop, would be a good idea to enable the power saver feature that makes the CPU underOC when at idle???

THANKS!

its not a good idea to go over 1.65v for the VDram, but the other voltages are fine for 24/7 use. if you want to increase your ram speed past 1600mhz then id look into replacing the kit with some faster stuff. generally intel cpu's prefer speed over tight timings.

i wouldnt but power saving features on when in overclocked settings. this some how killed my last motherboard. but it may have been a fault of the boards not mine.

I ran 1.8/1.9v on my board for quite a while and never had a problem, and his is a "luxury" version of my budget board

hey, hmm..i have searched for the max safe V for ram, and i saw that 1.8-1.9 is safe.
Now I'm trying 2000MHz with 9-10-9-26 at 1.8V.

I'm still in the +0.5V of the VTT voltage (IMC QPI same thing), but I'll try with 1.75V and do some memtest.

hi, me again. So I'm trying 10-10-10-26 2006MHz at 1.7v, memtest is running and no error occured till now, i'll let the test run for a couple of hours too see if its stable.

1.7 should be safe ?!?! Coz i see lot of ppl running 24/7 at even higher voltages
