gtx 460 1gb sli vs gtx 570 single+ which sb mobo?

My current rig

Ph II x4 945 @ stock 3.0 ghz
asrock 785g mobo
4gb ddr3 ram corsair 1333 value ram
gtx 460 galaxy 1 gb single
gigabyte superb 720w
monitor 24 inch 1920x1200

Now I plan to upgrade my rig and change the proc+mobo+gc to i5 2500k+?mobo?+1x single gtx 570 or add another 460 if mobo supports sli at 8x/8x minimum.
i plan to buy after 2 months.

i plan to run and my proposed rig

Core i5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz
????mobo????
4 gb ddr3 corsair ram 1333 (dunno if using this i can oc to 4.5 ghz)
gtx 460 1gb sli @ 850/1700/4200 or gtx 570 single @850/1700/4200
psu gigabyte superb 720w remains the same i think it can handle both situations of the gcs and procs.
monitor 24 inch 1920x1200

Now my questions

1. Should I go for sli gtx 460 1gb or single gtx 570? i saw some benches where sli 460s at stock even betats stock 580 single in some games.
Also i will run both sli gtx 460s or the 570 at 850/1700/4200 so which one you guys recommend?

2. About the mobo the cheapest i can find in my area is p67a gd55 if i sli then its the only cheapest choice now but i run a single 570 i can even go for a cheap p67 which is msi p67a-c45 in my area.
so which mobo options to choose?

3. will my psu able to handle the sli oc 460s? I saw some reviews it consumes 510w with i7 920 @ 3.7 ghz so can it handle 2500k @4.5ghz+sli oc 460s?
I think it can handle a single 570 oc with 2500k at 4.5ghz as sandy bridge is very power efficient.

4. Can my current ram help me oc the 2500k at 4.5 ghz?

i think sli oced 460 will still beat oced 570 or a slight oced 580

5. Current games from late 2009 to now and future have really benefitted from sli scaling but still 1 gpu is preferred for most games so what about that idea?

so please recommend which mobo to choose and which gc options to choose?

6. Whats the Max Stable Overclock i Can get with gtx 570 and gtx 460 sli? While gaming i will not turn the fan to 100% i will set to 70% max as both gtx 460 and gtx 570 are noisy and it will be a disturbance while gaming at 100% fan speed. So whats the max stable oc clocks i can get at 70% fan speed?

7. Can i oc 2500k @ 4.5 ghz in msi p67a-c45 using stock intel cooler?

As you've seen already,460 SLI beats a 580. And a 460 is cheap, so the obvious choice would be a second 460.

As long as the board supports 2 8x PCI-E slots instead of 16/5, any board is fine depending on your demands.

I don't know GB's PSU's, but I guess they are decent quality too. 700 watt is perfectly fine for 460 SLI, I have a 650 one.

4. Can my current ram help me oc the 2500k at 4.5 ghz?
The ram speed does not actually matter a lot anymore with SandyBridge, as you don't actually overclock the FSB but the Multiplier.

i think sli oced 460 will still beat oced 570 or a slight oced 580

For 460's an overclock of 850 can be done by all cards, some reach 900 and up.

7. Can i oc 2500k @ 4.5 ghz in msi p67a-c45 using stock intel cooler?
Probably, i'd invest a little in a better cooler though, even if it's a cheap one.

Sure, i've never seen my fans hit over 70%, ofcourse this depends on which brand you have and your airflow.

Any OC is not an iron-clad guarantee, but the large majority of people reporting have not had problems getting 460's or 570's to 850MHz ... but generally I think those clocks require the addition of some voltage.

this is not true, at least not for me.
i watercooled my msi cyclone and easily hit 920 clock and 2250 memory prime/futuremark stable.
thus, i have to say, cooling gpu AND ram, it is running very cool (gpu at use aprox. 42°C) so definitely less with aircooling.

personaly i would get the gtx 570 because i do not like the multiple graphic card setup. lets me think back to my 3dfx voodoo² times smile.gif
but now, seeing some benchmarks i may reconsider...

That's the only guarantee, your mileage may vary. One of my 460s is stable at 900 on air, another one won't go above 800 even on 1.087 volts. Both those cards are the superclocked edition. I have three 570s to play with too. One does 901, another does 894, and the last does 950.

I'd suggest going with the 570 now, you can always think about SLI two 570s later. I don't think you can tri-sli the 460s.

You could probably swing two gtx 470's for just a bit more than the gtx 460's...

Just putting that out there.

The GTX 460 at least $80 dollars cheaper than a GTX 470 and $200 less than a GTX 570. You will get more performance by just getting a second GTX 460.
