Motherboard south bridge

Thread Starter
if my south bridge was heat damaged would my system boot the south bridge handles my onboard
HD Audio and it went out so I am wondering if the south bridge got damaged as I have yet to put a heatsink on it I have a very cool running case but I know temps can go crazy what other functionality might I have lost to help me diagnose the health of my southbridge

Please use periods...
Also, are you sure its dead? Did you reinstall the drivers? I have yet to see an Audio package controlled by the southbridge.

The onboard audio chip is usually a separate chip from the southbridge. However, the southbridge is the important connection between your system and hard drives.
As for diagnosing it, I don't really know, but if you were running heatsinkless I'd assume there would be some damage (because most AMD southbridges don't even lack a smaller heatsink).
