Vsync and delay

I'm just curious wether to use vsync or not... Don't get me wrong some games use it perfectly, others I have some problems with. Some games with there vsync, including dc universe online which has just come out give me input lag in the game. I came to realise when I turned this off the game ran as smooth as anything and quick reactions, obviously because my cards are then made to work harder producing more fps than 60.

But then comes a problem, I sit and watch the temperature of my cards with vsync off and because they are mainly jumping between 70 - 99 gpu useage constantly where vsync normally keeps them below 60% and keeps the temps nice and cool I was seeing temps as high as 90'c.

So is there even a solution for this? like i have said before, I play other games such as WoW and SC2 with vsync on and it runs fine, itsj ust the selective few.

Do you have a fan profile on your cards? And AFAIK there is no way to fix the input lag other than turning off V-Sync thinking.gif

yes i have a fan profile on, the temps are fine even on bfbc2 with all settings max, obviously with vsync on. its only when vsync is actually off when these temps rise.

Try enabling triple buffering AND v-sync, see if that changes anything. Then report back.

Triple buffering via the NVCP is only active in OpenGL games, just for the record. I also don't *think* that triple-buffering works in SLI mode.

I would grab D3DOverrider from the Rivatuner installation package (it's a standalone app in it's own folder and doesn't require RT to actually be running or even installed) and see if using that to force v-sync (and what the heck, might as well try the triple-buffering) gets rid of the input lag.

It is most definitely the case that using v-sync causes input lag in some games and not others though, so this isn't a remotely surprising situation you describe.

AFA the temps issue goes, you might look into whether there's a way to mod that games' config file to force a framerate cap. Many engines have this functionality, even if it's not readily exposed to the end user.

Some games let you enable triple buffering in game too. Which is what I would recommend looking for first before downloading any other software.

Good point ... if it's in-game, try it thumb.gif

However, I think I've seen that option like twice, out of hundreds of games I've played.
