lol,

If you can't open up exe files, you can't fix it. Time for either a repair using windows 7 disk or a reinstall of windows.

Yes he can, he just needs to write a .reg file with a fix and execute that. What key did you delete?
Maybe I can write a .reg file that will fix this.

Or try this: http://windowsxp.mvps.org/exefile.htm

And that won't work since it'll ask him what program to it with, and when it tries to use regedit it won't work and will error.

What windows you using?

What does that mean?

And if someone writes a .reg file for him it will work easily. The only thing that sounds like it was dis-associated was the .exe extension. He just needs to remember what key he deleted, and run a .reg file. It's not a executable, it's a registry file, all it does is add/delete/change keys in the registry.

http://filext.com/file-extension/reg

http://filext.com/file-extension/exe

Note the difference?

This just makes me wonder what the hell you were doing messing in the registry in the first place

If you find it, it shouldn't be hard at all to fix, just write a simple .reg file. You can't open the registry editor, or can you?
