Cannot get sound after installing SP1

Thread Starter
My mother has a Toshiba Satellite P105-S6417 with Microsoft Vista on it. She was prompted to install SP1, and now she has no sound coming from her laptop.

By now you should know that I'ave already exhausted everything I knew to do to fix this, including the remedial steps in Microsoft article KB948481 and nothing has resolved the issue. I have downloaded the sound driver straight from Toshiba, and still nothing. All the sound settings that could be thought of are all set properly. There is nothing muted. What in the hell am I not doing?

Edit: Other steps I have tried:
System restore
deleting the registry key for the sound driver.
Prayer.

Open up the laptop, make sure all the wires are plugged in, I would also try:
WinKey + R
Type: Services.msc
Check: "Windows Audio" to see if its on Automatic, Try Restarting the service.

The laptop isn't in front of me. My mom is in an 18Wheeler right now half way across the country. Plus, the speakers were working just fine before the update. I'm sure a software issue didn't cause the physical wires to become loose. I'll check the service.

Restarting the service actually did it, and there was even an error with that. Thanks again man.
