Antec 900 inductive charger mod

Thread Starter
Well, I was bored today and decided to finally see if I could turn the little tray in the Antec 900 into an inductive charger. Armed with a dremel, screwdriver, and a powermat charger for my phone, I set out to work. I took the charger apart, discarding the unnecessary plastic pieces. After that, it was a little bit of trial and error, after discovering that the plastic tray was too thick to work effectively. I sanded it down a bit with my dremel, and taped the guts to the underside of the tray.
I routed the power cord through the back of my case. If anyone has any advice on how I could either power the charger through my power supply or usb, that would be awesome (the charger runs on 18v)

Here's pics:

So you can effectively charge your phone by laying it on the Antec 900 tray? That is pretty sick.

Yeah. As I'm setting it down the magnet pulls it to where it needs to go. It took a bit of sanding the underside of the tray to make the plastic thin enough for it to work effectively, but after that it works quite well.

You most likely can't get the 18v out of your power supply. I have seen USB add in card that has an internal usb port. Thats my closest idea. you may need a different mat that uses usb I guess.

Yeah, I don't think there are any inductive charging mats that are powered by usb only. I know if I were to make it work it would take about 4 usb ports, since the max output for each port is 5v. I just don't know how to wire it all up to make it work.

If you could wire the charger to +12V and -5V (instead of ground) then that would give the charger 17V, which should be enough for it to work correctly. The -5V is one of the lines going to the motherboard. You would have to cut this line and splice in a wire to your charger.

I don't think this would damage your PSU, but I would get another opinion just in case.
