I really couldn't tell you..I was just answering his question about whether or not they function properly without an amp.

@OP, if you are looking for bass heavy, try Audio Technica M50 or something of that nature, 595 are not it.

Seriously, for the BEST active noise cancelling tech, Bose can't be beat. Yeah, I know they are overpriced.

Hmm, so the 595s arent the best option when it comes to base? The denon D2000s look good, but they are sitting around 300 bucks. Is she able to operate the Denons without an amp?

Open-back are generally weaker on bass than closed-back, plus 595s are considered light on bass even when compared to other open-back headphones. Denon D2000s will work just fine without an amp. Try giving J&R a call and ask for the lowest price on them. They usually have the best prices.

No, they do not. It appears that they need good bass, and thats about it. Denon style, but without the price tag.

Look into the Audio Technica M50's..they are wildly popular at the midway price point for bass and closed back.

Beyerdynamic DT770 80 ohm.

Seriously? There was a problem with my second post?
The best set she can get will be the DT770 Pro80s. They are closed which will give her good isolation and no sound intrusion, and just enough impedance to make them sound good. They are excellent on bass reproduction. I have the AD700s and just got the 770s and my picky ears are very happy. The 32 ohm model is just as good, and might fair a bit better for her MP3, since the 80ohm 770s will eat the batteries. Next good pair would be the ATH A700s. Just a closed version of the AD700s. I dont know whats up with everyone so slap happy with the 555s. Besides, the new model is the 558 anyway.
The only Senns that will work will be the HD280 Pro. They will work on an MP3, but at 64ohms, they are going to eat the batteries pushing them.
