New to OC - Q6600 Help Wanted!

Thread Starter
I am completely new to overclocking anything besides a GPU as of 3 days ago (I got a new mobo with some birthday money)

I have done research, learned alot but alot remains to be learned.

My current specs are:
CPU - Q6600 @ 3115 Mhz at the moment
Mobo - XFX nvidia750i SLi
Heatsink - Corsair H50
GPU - GTX 580
PSU - Ultra LSP 650W
RAM - OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 SLI-READY EDITION @ 800 Mhz
(no idea what my timings are on them, I guess default for the sticks?)

My current bios voltages are as follows:
CPU Vcore - 0.1625V
Memory - 2.0V
VTT FSB - 1.4V
NB - 1.4V
SB - 1.53V
Settings like Intel Speedstep (EIST) and Spread Spectrum are disabled.

Scouting around Google I see people have air cooled their Q6600's to 3.4Ghz+

I can OC my CPU to 3.2 Ghz @ my current voltages but it isn't stable for more than a few minutes. Temperatures will not be a problem as I have rigged a window AC unit @ 15C to blow all air straight into my case. Load temps on Prime 95 don't exceed 40C

So with all that said, any help OC'ing to new heights?

Here's some images of my BIOS menu selections in the OC zone.

~Note: these are not my bios settings, just an image of my BIOS I found on Google.

In the bottom image, SB Voltage is cut off, but it's there.

Well what is your actual VCore? What you have listed couldn't possibly boot up. If you meant 1.1625 then you have plenty of room left to boost voltage. Those 65nm quads can take some insane voltages. Judging by your temps I'd say your max is 1.5v VCore, make sure temps are under ~80C under load. See how far you can get with that.

Also, is your chip a G0 stepping? This will make a huge difference in your chips OC'ing ability.

Okay, well try raising VCore to 1.5v and see how far that will take you.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. In BIOS it is set to 1.6125V but on boot it's always 1.4V actual vcore. Do you mean change the vcore in BIOS to 1.5V?

Nice to see another south Fl resident on the forums, the q6600 tends to be moody when it comes to overclocking. Becareful to keep the temps under 71c with the g0 stepping. I could get mine stable at 3.2 but was able to jump straight to 3.3-3.4 no problem.

1.5 will give you plenty of room to work but for 3.2-3.3 1.45v should be fine while keeping temps low

What wattage PSU should I get? 600W was recommended on newegg. I got some cash lying around though so this I can do.
