I'd suggest a good 750w or higher. Especially for oc'ing since that pulls far more power than stock

That is because vcore has a vdrop. It goes lower than you selecet in bios. And even worse under load. That is if you do not have a function called LLC or Load Line Calibration in bios. Then you will have little v-drop under load, or in some cases, your load voltage will be higher than your idle Volts..

This is called vdroop, and you seem to have a veryyy large one. Does your board happen to have LLC or Loadline Calibration?

650w is plenty. Don't worry about that. I have no idea what the above poster is talking about. Look here to get a near exact calculation. I am sure you will be fine.

Any reason as to why? And what should I do about it, crank up the vcore alot in bios?

All boards do, but i can't explain why yours is so high.

Mine is 1.5v in bios, i think i get 1.48v in CPUz but it drops as low as 1.4v under load.

It's reccomended never to exceed 1.5v on the Q6600.

Mine ran at 3.6GHz on air for years. It's only recently it's started to become unstable.

Does your board have Loadline Calibration? I sort of doubt it, but it'd make it easier. I am not very familiar with XFX boards personally.

I got my Q6600 in a prebuilt system from Bestbuy in early 2008 or so and have used it ever since at stock speeds until a few days ago. Could its age hold me back?

LLC reduces the vdroop on your CPU core. Basically, when your CPU goes from being idle to 100% load, CPU vcore will stay about the same.

It stops vdroop by pumping in more voltage when the CPU is under load.

If your motherboard supported it you'd have seen it in the options. Mine doesn't but i got on fine without it.

Edit: Age doesn't matter. Mine has degraded because it's been running at 3.6GHz for nearly 4 years now 24/7. Usually under 100% load too.
