The system just locks up? Sounds like it could be the ram. Download and run a program called memtest. Try with both sticks and then one at a time.
Also a little more detail than the system just locks up. When does this normally happen? Gaming? Just on desktop?

Might be an HDD dying already. Are either of them making weird noises?

And Spinpoint F3s are faster than Caviar Blacks at everything but random access time- which happens to be one of the most important factors in just doing desktop work in Windows.

OP you need to do several things:

Download:

HDtune: http://www.hdtune.com/

You are looking for results around this mark (first pic in thread) http://www.overclock.net/hard-drives...3-hd-tune.html
If they aren't at about that mark for both drives (I'm assuming they're not in RAID, you didn't say anything about it), one is dying and is likely the culprit.

Next:
CoreTemp: http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
HWmonitor: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Prime95: http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=205

Run Prime95 "Blend" test while watching your temperatures with Coretemp (if someone knows of a better temp monitoring program, please tell me- I've been looking for something better) and the other temperatures with HWmonitor and make sure that your CPU isn't going over 60 Celcius if it makes it 15 minutes in. If it is, take off your heatsink, reapply the thermal goop, and try again. Then run P95 again for a full workday- if it crashes your CPU Vcore might need to be bumped. If it's fine at that point, you need to look at memory failing with:

http://www.memtest86.com/

And run it for another workday. If it fails, it should do it fairly fast (hopefully), so then you would try one stick at a time.

Finally, if you have the power saving setting enabled in the Bios it can cause stability issues.

Tri reinstalling/updating your videodrivers for a start. Then check the RAM.

I've had a problem similar to this and I found it to be a bad SATA cable. Try switching it and using a different SATA port.
