Get the 2600K and use the remaining money to get the iPod later on when you have enough. Love spending money on computer parts, got myself a brand new i7-950 and am already selling it to purchase a i7-970 without testing the i7-950.

Why not? I think that everyone is forgetting that Ivy Brdige is not Haswell. Doesn't any one remember when Penryn was released? Socket 775. What about Gulftown? Still 1366. Ivy is NOT a new architecture.

I would either go with a new GPU, or the SSD. IMO you won't see much of an "real life" improvement unless you are going from an older Intel / AMD platform.

save yourself a giant headache and just get your i5 750 to 4.0. I am amazed motherboard manufacturers actually shipped out the utter garbage that is the p67 motherboard market.

Agreed. Haswell is the next big leap in architecture. Ivy Bridge is simply a 22nm die shrink of Sandy Bridge. I'll wait at least until Haswell is out until I need to upgrade and even then I might have to wait until the next step is out after Haswell.

To OP, if gaming is big concern then GPU upgrade will be bigger than any CPU upgrade. Unless you do alot of video encoding/rendering and other CPU intensive stuff. Otherwise you're just throwing money away by upgrading to a 2600K.

I would have bought a GTX 570/580 and had gotten high on thai-food like flashbulb suggested.

Heh. I ordered the i7 2600K and a Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD4. And to Fliq, I don't have a receipt because my friend ordered the parts for me from Amazon (he has Prime and I don't), so I'll post pictures if you'd like. :3

If I had your rig, and the same choice, I would've gone with a 570 and tried to squeeze an SSD. By going 2600K, it's going to feel like a side grade, and I doubt you'll see many gains in gaming.
