Amp or DAC or ? - Page 3

The Asus Xonar Essence cards or the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD are good sound cards from what I've heard (looked at head-fi, overclock.net, etc.). For the external DAC, I'd say the TubeMagic D1 (from Maverick audio. Go to www.mav-audio.com to order their external DAC's).

Not trying to jack the thread, but I'm in a pretty similar situation.

I used to have the HT Omega Claro Plus+, but when that died I RMA'd it and swapped it out with the Claro Halo (HT Omega's customer service is amazing), and have already done some opamp swaps and such to match my interests. Currently using HD595s, hopefully upgrading to 650s in the unknown future.

Anyways, recently I've noticed that whenever I open up a game there's a buzzing sound in the right side of the headphones, and becomes less noticeable when I click out of the game, and completely gone when I exit the game. This never happens for music or anything else. Only games.

I'm not sure if it's the headphones, the sound card, or what, and have no clue which company to call to look into replacements. My current guess is that it's potentially being caused by the sound card being stuck between my 2 GTX 470s, since that's the only PCI slot I have, but I'm not sure if this is it either.

So anyone have any ideas what to do? Should I call sennheiser, HT Omega, both? Or should I look into replacing the sound card altogether and just get an external DAC and amp? I know I'd want to do that sometime in the future, but would rather not spend that money right now.

That's what I was going to ask, if it were by your GPUs. Perhaps try running some GPU tests like MSI Afterburner to see if it happens then as well.

Well assuming it's interference from the GPUs, what would my options be for fixing the problem?

The very first thing you should do is plug the headphones into a different source and see if the same issue happens. That will very quickly identify the headphones as the issue or eliminate it as the problem.

Also, does it make the same noise with different headphones or sound source plugged into the HT Omega?

Finally, The HD650s are an excellent choice, and sound quite lovely with the HT Omega.
