Dell/Alienware M15x Ordeal - Page 2

Alienware are a subdivision of Dell so that may explain the poor support. I am a Dell customer and have always been pleased with there support. I thought the Battery on my Lappy was dying when in fact it was fine and was a program complaining about my battery for no reason. I contacted Dell and they shipped me another battery for nothing. So I now have 2 fully working batteries. Considering Laptop batteries can be expensive, I was pleased I got a freebie. On top of that Dell contacted me to make sure I was happy lol.

it seems its a matter of who you speak to on the phone then, usually you get the lazy so and so, or sometimes you get someone who is a genuine enthusiast and is actually there to help.

I feel sorry for people who have to talk to the over seas support, which most of the time is utterly fail.

I had multiple issues with my m11x, but in the end, they've sent me a replacement which was maxed out and will now offer me some rebates for the trouble I went through.

I'd say it takes some patience and some products are just lemon's. At the end of the day, there aren't a lot of companies that are able to offer the kind of products Alienware can (gaming laptop) at a competitive price.

I work on Alienware fairly often as a Dell tech. Many times they are a two or three trip service call. I get frustrated myself by the lack of good phone based support for the customers. Wrong diagnoses by them are pretty common which means I come with parts that don't fix the problem.

Alienware desktops have been, and always will be overpriced. The laptops, not so much, however I wouldn't touch one these days. I had a pre-Dell Alienware, and honestly, it was the best damn laptop I have ever owned. I had it for four years or so, but ended up selling it for something smaller, as I wasn't gaming as much. I still, to this day, regret selling that laptop.

I never been greeted by an American voice from Dell Tech Support in the 3 or 4 times I've had to call them over the years. Nothing against the Indian tech support, but their accent is SO damn thick.

We had a (not so tech-savvy) guy bring in his $3000 Alienware desktop to our shop a couple weeks ago. He wanted us to 're-spawn' (format) the system and get the Alienware Control Center working so he could change the colors of the LEDs on the case. Kiddie stuff, yes, but we didn't turn him away.

One of the other techs here had to make a call to Alienware as part of the ticket and they were totally useless. We got bounced from Alienware to Dell then back to Alienware. The client had at one point paid $250 for an 'Alienware schematic', basically a puffed up spec sheet in an Alienware notebook. He had a copy of the original invoice with 'Alienware schematic' listed on it but both Dell and Alienware claimed to have no knowledge of any sort of schematic... Laughably pathetic.

Dell on it's own is a fantastic company (at least at the business/enterprise level). Alienware needs to disappear and never return...

BTW: $3000 bought this guy an i7 930, 6GB ValuRAM, 5850, 1TB HDD and Corsair H50. Oh and of course an Alienware-branded monitor, keyboard and mouse. Some people are just
This guy deserves bad tech support with that kind of purchase.
I mean, really, "respawn" his system?

If you do go with Xoticpc, I'd recomend a Sager NP8690, It's a clevo w860cu rebranded by sager. The w860cu will also be compatible with the 6970m when that comes more available

Or if you don't mind poor tech support eurocom sells the w860cu for the best price that I can find. It would be quite abit more powerful then the M15x u have if you spent the same amount.

edit: I guess the 6970m is available now.
