I am actually in the exact same boat and I'm going with the 460. When overclocked it blows the 6870 away. Not to mention Nvidia plays better with DX11.

1080p in most games with 2x AA and won't drop under 50 fps barring the most intense parts.

The 460 and the GF104 chip so beefy and cool that all the 2nd+ generation cards have been factory OC'd between 700 and 800mhz ish, when the stock is only 625 I think?
Mine's OC'd with default asus DirectCu cooling, 800/2100 and won't go over 73c in OCCT after 30 minutes.

No idea what the 6870 is like though.

*edit* Mind as well wait another month~ish and get the 560 though, assuming it releases between 200-240$ like the 460 did.

6870 stock to stock with 460, 6870 is up there with gtx 470, mind you, you can also overclock 6870 so.... and also 68xx series do better when there's more tessellation.

but yeah, i don't know where you are pulling your sources from.

edit: OP, not sure how much 6870 cost where you are from but based on prices in canada and US, they go for around low 200 range now days so I'd probably pick up 6870 and run CF setup down the road

Original review against the AMD 6870 vs the MSI GTX 460 Talon and EVGA FTW cards.

http://www.kitguru.net/components/gr...rex-review/22/

Notice the MSI 460 Talon is at 1000/1000 and the EVGA FTW is at 850/1000. The HIS AMD 6870 is 950/1140 overclocked.

The single HIS 6870 is being beat by the single MIS 460 Talon and EVGA 460 FTW.

In crossfire to SLI however the AMD 6870 beats the EVGA FTW 460, but they didn't show the MIS Talon 460 in SLI. I'm going to assume that in crossfire it would beat the MSI Talon 460 as well in proportion.

http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/up...overclock1.png

http://www.kitguru.net/wp-content/up...-vantageoc.png

So in conclusion : the single card solution the MSI Hawk Talon Attacks GTX 460 1000/1000 or EVGA GTX 460 FTW 850/1000 beats the single HIS AMD 6870 950/1140 by margins.

On the other hand the two card solution the HIS AMD 6870 OC 950/1140 beats the MSI GTX Talon Attacks 1000/1000 and EVGA 460 FTW's 850/1000 overclocks.

AMD scales better in crossfire than Nvidia in SLI. AMD's cards getting better gains from the second card than Nvidia.

Now I'd get the MSI AMD 6870 Twin Frozr II which can get 1000Mhz core / 1175Mhz memory for 32.0 Gpixel's and 150.4Mhz bandwidth. Even better than the GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack or EVGA GTX 460 FTW.

^ do you have any working links? lmao,

provide multiple back ups at least, its just one source taht uses custom settings.
having said taht, I don't know how reliable of source kitguru is but they seem to only do 1 resolution
show me a talon hawk that actually overclocks to 1ghz on air. I've owned 2 hawk and best I got out of them was 950core for one of them that's without modding/unlocking voltage to hit over 1.089 factory limit.

also comparing these cards at different resolution, hd 6870 is up there especially when you go higher in resolution and when there's more tessellation

edit: forgot to ad, I've seen more 6870 hitting 1ghz vs gtx 460 hawk, never actually seen a single hawk break 1ghz on air, whether it be TALON ATTACK ZOMG BBQ or just hawk

Sorry I fixed the links as well. This came from a thread where I was chatting back and forrth with JDMfish.

http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...x-460-a-5.html

I no longer own my AMD 6870 since I refunded back within 30 days to upgrade to a GTX 580 one card solution instead of dealing with crossfire or sli.

Still LYAO?

By the way those were MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attacks that were built with triple voltage tweak. First one ever. So the previous Hawks didn't reach it. They are even built better instead of solid state capacitors they have HI-C and better Graphics memory not to mention capacitance chokes that allow for the voltage tweaks stated.

- 7+1 Phase PWM Design
- Higher current to GPU Power
- Higher overclocking capability
- Better stability in peak load
- 0.4ns GDDR5 high-speed Graphics Memory
- Enhanced on-board memory for full overclocking potential
- Military Class Components
- Hi-C Cap provides more precise GPU voltage.
- SFC (Super Ferrite Choke) : 30% Higher Current Capacity, 10% Power Efficiency Improvement.
- All Solid CAP for longer lifespan.

http://us.msi.com/index.php?func=pro...6&prod_no=2054

They are new GTX 460 Hawk TALON ATTACK.

Happy gaming!

If they have the 6870 you want @ $200, buy it!! The 6870 I wanted was nearly $50 more expensive than my 460 (with S&H), and I couldn't justify $50 for ~100 more core.

A 950c 6870 will perform just about the same as a 950c 460, give or take, depending on game/benchmark used.
