spending 2k on laptop. "Is there cheaper"? *Free gift for help* - Page 2

I would definitely reccomend the Asus G73 (the older one with crossfire 5870ms) I have no idea why Asus decided to go with the GTX460m SLI, which is less powerful then the 5870ms in Xfire. It has a 1080p screen (matte, not glossy), and a i7 quad. Will run you around $1500. Then take the extra $500, and buy 2 256GB SSDs, put those in RAID0 and you're in business.

Asus g73SW, for sure. otherwise the aforementioned sager from xoticpc.com would be a good choice. the gtx460m enables 3d vision so JW and SW models both have it.

5870m (underclocked desktop 5770) and 460m both have equal performance really, I would aim for a lap with the gtx 485m(desktop 460) though, that is a beast of a mobile gfx card. So far i only see sager notebooks having that option tho

Actually, the GTX460m is considerably slower. http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus...ati-5870m.html
Trust me, I've been drooling and obsessing over an actual gaming laptop for ages. Just can't afford one

I think that spending over 1000 for a laptop is a waste but it is your choice.

under any circumstances do NOT buy a dell product. as soon as its left the factory, you can pretty much wave goodbye to any support or warranty you thought you had, its nearly as bad as apple.

something like THIS is where your heading with your budget. plus dell really skimp out on parts and charge you a bomb.

The GTX460m is an underclocked Desktop GTS 450.

In trying to get the best bang for the buck, my big focus would be: Do you really need the 3D screen? I say this because you have to consider how well an underclocked GTS 450 is going to do 3D @ 1080p?

These are the laptops I would look at.

Agreed, the GTX485m is essentially a down clocked desktop GTX 460, and is the best mobile card available. After that I would go w/ a MR5870 > 460m as it has better all around performance (including DX11).

If you wanted a 470m is essentially a desktop 460SE and will perform really nicely and give you some room to config w/ a better proc or bigger HDDS.

Yeah but he already said he wants a 120hz 3d ready screen. So unless that asus comes with it, he probably won't go that route.
