Help me get to 4.0GHz!

Thread Starter
Just need some help getting to 4.0GHz on Air for an i5-760.
Currently at 3.70GHz stable with 1.175V

Any attemps at getting it over that have been unsuccessful thus far.

I'll post up BIOS settings once I see if I can get 3.80GHz stable

I took 1.3V as a nice place to start a 4.0 test. I got stable at 1.3, and eventually was able to bring it down to 1.275. I would say try 1.3V at 4 ghz, run 20 runs of linx for initial stability, then do an overnight run of prime95. The linx run will give you a nice idea of max temps, and prime will let you know if you need to increase voltages more or not.

Edit: you said your trying 3.8, took me 1.215V to do that. Its my current 24/7 OC.

Yes you definitely need more core and uncore voltage. Try 1.3V[Core]/1.27[Uncore] and see how high you can get your BCLK. What multi does that chip have? Also keep an eye on what your RAM is running at with the higher BCLK and adjust RAM frequency and voltage accordingly.

EDIT: You never mentioned your temps, what are they like?

Core Temps are at
Min: ~40C
Max:~60C

CPU Temp is at
Min: ~30C
Max: ~50C

How do you change Uncore Voltage, actually?
And the multi is currently at 20.
I've tried 21 and 19 as well, doesn't seem to like any of them for 4.0GHz

Also: IBT.
Viable option for stability as opposed to LinX?

EDIT:
Here are my current BIOS settings

QPI/VTT: 1.25V
PCH Core: Auto
CPU PLL: Auto
DRAM Voltage: 1.50V (My RAM's rated Volts)

try these

set vcore to 1.27v on bios..
pump up that VTT voltage to 1.25v
cpu PLL left AUTO
make sure that your QPI and uncore frequency is both on x18
set your memory multiplier to x8
adjust FSB to 200 and multiplier to 20

Disable c1e, Turbo boost, EIST and any other power saving feature your board has..
turn on LLC for voltage drooping adjustments..

Thanks! My problem is I have no idea how to set my Uncore frequency. The lowest I can set my QPI Frequency is x32, unfortunately.

And I shall try all of those. Thanks!

System Memory Multiplier: 8.0
PCI Express Frequeny: Auto
CPU Clock Drive: 800mV
PCI Express Clock Drive: 900mV

CPU VCore: 1.25V (For some reason, the 'normal' VCore changes from 1.09 to 1.375 a crapload. Before, this rig was stable at 1.175V)<-------------change to 1.27v or 1.3v
QPI/VTT: 1.25V<----------------try 1.27v if not stable(some chips love VTT i am running mine at 1.29v)
PCH Core: Auto<-------------1.075v
CPU PLL: Auto
DRAM Voltage: 1.50V (My RAM's rated Volts)<---------you can try 1.55 or 1.57 for stability
DRAM Termination: Auto (0.75)

Advanced CPU Core features:
Intel Turbo Boost: Disabled
CPU COres Enabled: All
CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E): Disabled
c3/c6/c7 State Support: Disabled
CPU Thermal Monitor: Auto
CPU EIST Function: Disabled
Bi-Directional PROCHOT: Auto <------------------disabled
try those edited..

i have the P55-UD3R and i can lower the QPI/Uncore frequencies..or the least you can leave it as is..but when aiming for a Higher OC you have to lower the QPI 1 step down to gain stability plus add more VTT voltage on to it..

also rule of thumb..
DDR3 voltage - VTT voltage should not be equal or greater than 0.5v else you fugde up..

Well, I can boot into Windows with it now, so that's a relief.

What do think would be safe temps?
I'm getting ~70 on the cores

P.S. IBT just returned with an error.

Any settings you suggest I change?

depends on the cooler..though mine just went up around 60c ish temps..4ghz at 1.25v stress tested through Linx/IBT my VTT is 1.35v tho....

try 1.6v on dimms plus another 0.225v on VTT and another notch for CPU Vcore..
