windows OEM question?

Thread Starter
I just bought a copy of windows xp sp3 home from a source that I hope is legitimate
regardless if I install OEM XP on my system and it then is tied to my motherboard would
I later be able to install win 7 retail without replacing my mobo and no other complications
and the win 7 retail copy would not be associated with an OEM product? anyone

Win 7 will not upgrade from XP. You will need full install of Win 7 and not the upgrade version. This is regardless of your XP version being OEM.

You can install it fine. You won't have to change out your motherboard. The OEM info isn't that important if you're going to 7 anyway. However, to install 7 you WILL have to do a complete reinstall.

Even with the upgrade version of w7 you can still "upgrade". Just do the custom install option which will wipe the hdd anyways. At least, that's how I understood the information.
