2 Speakers to 1 Channel

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I'm in the process of slowly building up my sound system for my computer.

At the moment I only have a stereo system which has 2 channel output (Left and Right).

I've acquired 2 sets of speakers though and was wondering if I could do this:

I'm thinking it depends on the wattage of the speakers combined..

Please advise Thanks!

Ahhh cool cool..

Ok so some specs now to see if I got this clear.

Amp
----
RMS output : 7.5W / channel (6 Ohm)

Speaker A
----
Impedance: 6 Ohm
Input Power: 35W

Speaker B
----
Impedance: 8 Ohm
Input Power: 50W

====================

So say I connect them in parallel:

(6x8)/(6+8) = 3.43, which means they should work with my amp right?

Also, because Speaker A and Speaker B are not the same rating, how will the amp distribute the signal/power..?

You generally want to keep your impedance close to the rating for your system.
Keep in mind if you use twice the impedance, you'll only get half of the power, and typically vice versa.

Input power is simply what the speaker itself will handle.
At 7.5W between 2 speakers, you don't have anything to worry about as far as too much power.

Someone else might have to chime in as far as impedance tolerance to the point of equipment damage, but the figures you have listed aren't exactly extreme and should function without issue.

keep your impedance above 4, otherwise your stuff will go boom. Most amplifiers can't handle loads below 4 ohms.

And the lower your ohmage, usually the wattage increases, but not always. I'm a bit unsure about hi fi sure, but keep the load above 4, and if possible closer to 6. Other then that, don't push it hard and it should work.

parallel resitance calc here
http://www.1728.com/resistrs.htm

for series just add them up

8ohm and 6 ohm in parallel = 3.4 ohm (way lower than the amp is designed for, and the 6ohm speakers would be louder than the 8 ohm ones)

id say use the 6 ohm set, and/or find another amp for 8 ohm speakers
splitting the rca line will not hurt anything, and you will have better volume control
post #8 of 15
7.5w over 2 speakers each chammel isnt going to be very loud nor will it sound better then just using 1 set each channel until you get a newer amp.

No it will not work unless you put them in series. I believe there has been some links in above posts.
