Scratch build questions

Thread Starter
I've long been planning on doing a scratch build of my case. I originally was going to just stick with a really simple, ultra small mATX build. But lately, I've had this dream of building an all in one. I know it would be a huge PITA, but I have a full machine shop (complete with laser cutter), and if I decide to do this, it will happen. I've got a couple questions before I do this:

1) Is it possible to get a high end 30 inch display just as the LCD panel/back light combo? Because I want a high end display (1600x2560 blah blah blah), but I would rather just get the panel, which would be a lot less hastle.

2) I can't deal with a huge power supply, I need something thinner. I haven't found any smaller power supplies that deliver that much power. Would it be more feasible to mod the PSU case to make it smaller, or to try to run a couple in parallel?

3) This sounds like a crazy project, but would be so cool if I did it right... I want to do it so badly.

1.) You are talking about a LCD without the case and stand? You will have to buy one and take the case/stand off it OR look at a website that sells specialty "repair parts". I have a friend who works doing R&D engineering work on LCD screens. He can not even get ahold of just a LCD by itself. They just buy them off ebay, and remove the case and stand. You can buy just the LCD screen it's self, if the screen is small (like ipod screen size).

2.) They have micro ATX power supplies that already come super small. You could make some more space by takeing off the case, but be carefull. There are capacitors that could mess you up if you touch them while it is running.

If you wanted to do some electrical engineering work you could go to Digi-Key and find a custom power supply and solder on the proper connectors and solder on a transistor switch, but this would require alot of electronics knowledge.
