Crosshair IV + 965 Past 4.0 GHz Help!

Thread Starter
I have been trying all sorts of combinations (I'm quite new to overclocking past 4.0Ghz), and just cannot get it stable in prime95.

Here are my exact specs:

Crosshair IV Formula rev. 2
Phenom II X4 965 C3
Gskill 128000 8GB 1600Mhz 9-9-9-24

Can someone who has the exact same CPU+Motherboard (or similar), and have gotten a stable 4.0 or more, post their bios configurations (specifically only what they have changed that wasn't there by default). I would highly appreciate that.

Sorry I cant post bios settings but just curious wht voltage and temps are you running?

Everything stock, so whatever those would be XD

And CPU temp stays at 35 Idle and no more than 50 under max load while at 3.8

Here it is at 3.6:

no matter what u try , u cant get 4Ghz with stock settings on AMD chips
try putting 1.375 CPU voltage
raise the ram voltage , tighten the timings a little , that should work

you can def hit 4.0 plus but you need some more voltage to do it. That being said thats a great chip you got alot of room to work with

I agree 4.0 should be easy to hit but you will need to change voltages a bit to get there. Start by reading/studying this thread http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ing-guide.html
it will help you learn the basics on how to OC, plus give you a path to follow rather than just asking for, and than copying someone else's settings that may not work for your setup. Each chip and mobo are different and have different requirements.

I have a CHIV Formula and while it is a top iof the line mobo it does take some basic knowledge so you don't do any damage. To start with you need to find your max cpu clock without changing the ref clock etc. You need to manually set Ai OC tuner to manual,
set PCIE Freq to 100
Set the Dram Freq to manf specs along with the timings,
change Extreme OV to disabled,
change the CPU + NB Volt Mode to either offset or manual (I prefer offset),
manually enter Dram Voltage to manf specs,
set CPU Load Line Calibration to FULL
and same with CPU/NB LLC (change to FULL)

With these manually entered in bios than start with 1.35v Vcore and start with slightly over stock cpu multiplier. Test with prime95 for a half hour, if it passes move the multi up one setting and repeat test. Do this till it fails prime, than make a SLIGHT vcore increase and repeat test again and so on. As a finial test of cpu stability make sure it can pass 12-24 hrs of prime95 and not exceed 55c or 1.5v for 24/7 use or a max of 1.55v

I'm always free to help with questions so feel free to PM me if needed.
