flashing i7 720qm to 740qm

Thread Starter
Like, the title says, is it possible? since the two of them are both the same chips, just that one of them is clocked higher, wouldn't it be possible to flash the 720 to 740 clock speeds?

You don't flash CPUs. Besides, with Turbo mode and the slight OCing option (looks like a 1x increase in multi on top of turbo) the CPU should be more than capable.

Its unlikely you would see noticeable gains from the ~100mhz increase between the 720 and 740 really.

You can't really flash them.

Though you can get an overclock with the right software.

well, if you're using multi-threaded apps there really isnt any turbo at all, your 4 cores will run at 1.6ghz. Plus the Turbo mode OC option on this laptop is a joke, it actually decreases your performance in heavily threaded apps instead of increasing performance.

Sircles: Its a laptop, ocing it isn't the best idea, i've tried it and it decreases my fps in some games for some reason, im guessing its because its unstable since the only method for ocing is through software and moding the fsb, with no way to tighten the timings for any other components, ram, NB etc.

I dont understand why it cant be flashed though? since the 720 is basically the same chip as the 740, cant u flash the 740's bios on to it to make it run at higher speeds?
