Another 115v Vs 240v question,

Soo, running down the past forum's on this, never really found the answer I was looking for, I live in the US, but setting up a 240v leg for the comp would cut my current useage in half, any body done this? from my past exe, things that run on 240v like it! wounder if any of our Austrailen counterparts have noticed any differances? Using 240 in stead of 120 would cut the current in half, but would keep the power exactly the same: P=UxI

...on the other hand PSUs have better efficiency @240V, so if you have 240V available you should use it in stead of 120V.

Yup, 240v would improve your PSU efficiency by 1-5%. However, just be careful what you plug into that outlet as it may damage other components.

I believe monitors are fine though.

OH,yessir. It would deffinately be by itself, and labeled! although don't forget, 240v is actully more safe than 115v! 240v will blow you clear where 115v likes for ya to grab and hold on!

Most modern monitors are fine as they feature Universal Input / APFC.

A long with Laptop power bricks; speakers you'll want to check on though. Any USB wall chargers as well.

Power Strips sometimes need to be changed to support 240v and some are 115v only.

Hey thanx'z for you guy's input! was'nt thinking of putting the moniter on 240v, bu now considering how warm it does get, probly be better, after 3 hrs of gamming, (of course not during winter) the whole room temp will climb an extra 8 to 10 deg,s. and thats why I went with the H50, not for the mild OC,
but try to keep the room cool,

Not a bad idea, just don't really see the point since you will be using the same amount of power and wont save any money on electricity since you are charged per KW not per amp. I guess it will be more efficient but not really worth the trouble of bringing 240v service to the receptacle that you are using. The reason 240v is there is so you can save money on the size of the conductors when using large equipment. Really pointless in this case.

OK, now I'm no EE, but I have had electrical class's, what make's heat? currant flow, (amps) if cut in half, should drop temp's with same powr usage!

The wattage will be the same except for the small gain in switching efficiency. You are not going to cut the heat dump in half.
