6970 or GTX 580 for my rig? - Page 3

Here is a link shown some numbers between them. Depending on the resolutions, gtx580 is about 12% to 15% faster so it comes down to the price. Both draw about 250w max. I know you are getting a 700w psu so make sure it can pull 50a on 12v.

......Get the GTX 580

Idiot..

I have to say, 6870's pretty much suck at single card but at crossfire, whew it's a freakin monster smile.gif

Thanks for your replies everyone,

I'm very torn, I think oh "I'll go with NVidia" and then a minute later I'll be like "Oh but ATI..." pff, lol.

The only thing I don't like about dual GPU setups is what if I play a game that doesn't support two? Are there many of those? I'd be better off with the single GPU card in that case.

I'm thinking either 2 6870's or 6970's would give me the best bang for my buck? Anyone have any benchmarks on 2x 6870's or 6970's vs a GTX 580 (single or dual).

Is it true I won't need PhysX for gaming? Don't games that support it uhh have better PhysX? =O

Meh. i reccomend 6950's over 6970's due to Proportionally better scaling.

do doubt the 6000 series will live long.

best bang for buck sicne the Nv 8800 series

doh.gif This thread is going nowhere, we are no longer answering the OP's question but bashing each other.

OP, I will not suggest anything, because it will be bashed.

EDIT: Ok fine, now that your going X-Fire, this is easy.

Buy 2 6950's ---> Unlock them ---> X-Fire ---> Win.

better bang for buck will be 2X 6870's.

and almost all game's support 2 GPU's.

and if they dont. u can simply disable crossfireX.

I personally have out benched a single GTX 580

2X 6870's are 480$ a GTX 580 is 499USD. the choice is your's

All right, thanks everyone... I'll keep thinking, perhaps by the time I have enough money the 7xxx series will be out? When is that, anyway?

two 6870's would beat any single card configuration and they're cheaper although as you said when some games are not supported you have to settle for single card performance. both have pros and cons. most will go with the fastest single card.

few benchmarks I've saved up
