Yeah, those 470 reference coolers are jet engines.
well 5800 series fans ARE MUCH MORE THAN a JET engine..i have 2 5850 references and once i pull the fan on 70% it makes more noise than the GTX470's at the same speed..

What ambient?

What GTX 470 is it?

What case do you have?

Have you done any mods to it?

Do you have any pictures of this?

What settings did you use for whatever game/app used?

What kind of fans do you have, where are they, and how many?

What voltage is your 470 @ that 866Mhz works reliably in all the games you play?

Don't come in here just expecting to flaunt your low temps around buddy. Back that up or go away. I'm sorry for the rude tone, but I'm tired of the VAST lack of information that comes flying by the internet. Give me graphs, give me details, or ****.

For reference:

I'm seeing 81C load in Bad Company 2 online in a full server (1680 x 1050, 4x AA, high details, HBAO off, all Nvidia optimizations off) on stock clocked/voltaged Galaxy GTX 470 GC @ 625Mhz w/ 23.5C ambient temp in this case. It's got 3 120 Scythe SFLEX E 1200 RPM's in front, 2 in the middle, and a pair of Arctic Cooling AF-12 1500 RPM in back.

No offense but 81C sucks majorly.

Sure it can handle that temp but that is ridiculously hot.

If I were you I'd invest in the arctic cooling accelero that will fit your card.
my 285 never goes above 53C with fan on stock 40%

And for comparison, 100% on the AC cooler is more quite than 40% stock fan speed lol

New Catalyst have nothing to offer BC2 players, but I sure got a big bump in performance!
So I can get a 6870 for ~$220, and a GTX470 ~$275...Of course the GTX470 is better, it's evident by the +$50 more on the price tag...

Why don't you compare similar products before you blame drivers or anything like that.

Here is a 2 similar products (470 vs 6950 {~$280}):

the default fan profile is set for low noise, not low temp's.

my 6870's are sandwiched ant my top card actually max'es at 81C during gaming as well. my bottom card hit's 70C if this.. and 81c for any video card isnt much. this is about average fr a majority of them.
you bash the temp's, but these card's sip power. use around same energy as a 5850.

you are an idiot. just because the GTX 470 is 50$ more doesnt mean it's better.

A video card's price DOES not justify it's performance over that of a slightly cheaper card

'my card cost more therfore it must be faster!' - is this your logic? wrong..

This is why thing get started with you Yoko, because you have absolutely no manners whatsoever. Post reported first off.

Second, why don't you compare 2 cards IN THE SAME PRICE RANGE. Comparing the GTX470 to the 6870 is comparing a HIGH END CARD to a MID RANGE card. Again, evident by its price tag.

O and wadda know, even though it's $50 cheaper, the 6870 is roughly 2% slower in most games...

Yoko, you sir are the idiot

I'm not trolling, I was just saying that in this case it's still a much better comparison to compare the 2 top end cards.

If we were to do an actual comparison on cards, you wouldn't look at a low end card a compare it to a high end would you?

No, you would compare 2 cards that are roughly the same price, which the GTX470 and the 6870 are not.
