2000 10-10-10 or 1600 8-8-8?

Thread Starter
The ram is OCZ Low Voltage (v1.65) 1600Mhz CL8. Should i bother running at 2Ghz CL10?

I have the same issue, but with a g skill one. I've tested some bench and games, and the FPS in games is 4-5FPS more with the 2000MHz. What V do u have to use?

I like the higher mhz myself for intel. But you still won't see much difference int he low timings -vs- the higher mhz unless you are doing synthetic benchmarks or some app that uses a lot of memory though.

With the 2000mHz, I'd be VERY worried about what QPI/DRAM or CPU-VTT voltage you'd need to get that rated clock.

For my GEIL2133 in triple-channel that I am running-to get it to run at rated speed I need over 1.4V CPU-VTT (Without any CPU overclock) to get it stable...at default "auto" with 2133mHz set, ASUS sets my board to 1.5V CPU-VTT! To run said memory at 1866 (without CPU overclock) I need 1.35V CPU-VTT, I've settled for this than the crazy higher volts for the rated mem clocks.

With Bloomfield CPUs and high mHz RAM, you're going to need very high CPU-VTT to get rated speed..."High" as in unhealthy, IMHO.

2000 is hard to get on x58. my chip sucks and needs a ton of voltage. like 1.43v QPI/Vtt just to boot at 1960MHz. So I'm back to 1600MHz even though my ram is rated for 2000.

the 2000 kits tighten up nicely when underclocked though.

I'd like to see you try to get it stable at 2000mhz on an overclock of ~4Ghz. I have found it pretty much impossible without having to pump through voltages that are too insane for my liking. And even then it was only boot-worthy rather than actually stable (or at least, I'll assume so, I didn't actually test it).

and what about 1.3v for the IMC and 1.75v for the dram? Is this safe for every day use? Temps are not a problem in this case

1.75 is a little high, I'm at 1.7v DRAM right now and people have told me not to go above that
