Why do these companies do the dumb thing and try to limit the potential of their product? Seriously, that's what's holding the ifad's competition back is locked and controlled software. If they spent less time trying to control people and more time working on the complaints they'd have spent less money and earned more money. I just don't get it.
Because these companies intended to make most of their revenue from the paid apps and games assoicated with the iphone and PS3. Big legit bucks are made from selling licences to third parties, and getting royalties etc. from these apps. If a free open source type software can replace most of whats in the store, there goes a big chunk of moolah. More "potential" bucks are lost if people can obtain legit apps for free instead of paying for them.
Luckily apple has the luxury of selling underpar hardware for half a grand like hot cakes while Sony looses money for each ps3 sold.
