Android programming is not any better. I still have to manually kill most of my processes or lose battery life in like 5 hours.

More "potential" bucks are lost if people can obtain legit apps for free instead of paying for them.

Luckily apple has the luxury of selling underpar hardware for half a grand like hot cakes while Sony looses money for each ps3 sold.
I don't think the apple a4 chip is underpar at all

That's why I feel angry every time I read about someone releasing a "tablet" and it has all these great specs (nvidia's cpu) and then they cripple it with pathetic software. It makes no sense to waste money making a powerhouse if you never will give it the directions (software) to perform to it's fullest. No business should ever go after "potential" bucks (software sales) when it has "realizable" bucks (hardware sales) to be had.

And seriously, Sony should not be losing money anymore for the PS3. I thought they broke even a year or two back?
There is a lot more profit to be had in the software than the hardware. This is the case with next gen consoles their first couple of years.

The PS3 hardware started breaking even around the time the slim PS3 was released.

LOL. That's because in Apple's defense (I know shock) they've done a pretty decent job making sure you never notice that. Hence the reason they didn't/don't let you run multiple apps at the same time on it and flash is gone from it. And when I have seen someone actually put productivity software on it like they show in the commercials it was actually pretty slow. Come to think of it maybe that is the reason Apple is doing this; to prevent people from accessing programs that the ifad would be crushed under.

@lordikon: I understand what you're saying. Like MS releasing 2007 then 2010 which is just a different GUI with minor additions to features and charging like it's a brand new thing. Now I'm not saying they haven't made big changes. Just they

But I'm getting to the point where I see very little software that is worth paying for that isn't free. I have nothing against charging the sheeple of the world for their ignorance as that's just the free market but to have the audacity to try and control everyone invites defiance while showing that these companies realize they're either at the limit of their hardware or they can't actually make software that's competitive themselves. They would make more money as I've stated before pushing new improvements in software than they could hope to with these pointless control tactics. If they made programs that were better, faster, and easier that allowed user to do things no other software out could then they wouldn't bother with this. So I thinks it's rather obvious that from their actions they don't have faith in
A) their hardware
B) their ability to make competitive software.

Because of this I will never buy a PS3 at it's current price or an ifad. And I'm not simply an Apple hater because I'm also talking about the android tablet makers and how they also are following this same pattern.

I swear they need to teach in business classes that the harder you press and squeeze customers the more you lose compared to what you gain. /end rant

Even my crappy G1 can handle auto-kill in a way that works fine.

Bad design, my HTC Dream does the same but my mums HTC Desire lasts all day with WiFi on and not many power saving features activated. (Pretty much..The screen turns off after 5 minutes, thats it)

I dont know why Apple doesnt just go after them, the main source of blatantly pirated apps.

I firmly believe that anyone who claims they jailbreak iDevices - particularly anyone that frequents a site like OCN - ONLY for customization reasons is utterly (and completely) full of crap. I don't believe anyone that claims otherwise - ever. I mean it's so easy a caveman could literally do it, it's almost dumb not to if you jailbreak.
I've never pirated any apps on my jailbroken iPhone. I jailbreak mainly for the many apps Apple won't allow in the app store, like biteSMS, a lock screen notification program, tethering and the my3g app.

It is ironic that the only pirated software I have found on Cydia was sinfuliphone, which pirated payed-for Cydia apps. Not once have I seen a way to pirate official apps (not that there isn't a way).

I personally have a jailbroken 3g phone so I can use it with T-Mobile. I lucked out and got a refurb for free, so I felt it was much better than my crappy T-Phone. I don't pay for data, so I have simple text and call and the ability to use wifi. I must say that the battery life doesn't bother me under these circumstances. I generally (with 3G off) get 2-3 days of use.

Another thing is that this article is not correct - Apple did try this already and failed at it.
