The problem with that though is you aren't playing people from all around the world, it's only people that are on the same Battle.Net servers as you are. So someone in Europe can't play with someone in Korea because they aren't on the same servers. Doesn't make any sense.

I can agree with you on this part. When I tried playing SC1, I just couldn't get into it because of the graphics (granted I first tried the game last year XD).

Each expansion is going to cost $60 for basically a new campaign and one or two units, possibly. Also there is an 18 month cycle for each expansion. Spending $60 (standard edition - $100 for Collector's) on a PC game is a difficult decision for many people; spending $60 on an expansion to an already expensive game is a little over the top.

I do have to say that I also own SC2, but it is mostly for the custom games and just random matches me and my friends play. If I want to actually play an RTS competitively, I pull out DoW2 Chaos Rising and play that instead. Besides, it's always nice to admire where Blizzard got their races and units from anyway XD

However, startcraft 2 is really fun for playing with your friends and playing single player. But for me, the 1v1's against other people(not your friends) is just boring and repetitive. I feel sorry for the people who spend that much time doing the same strategy over and over again until they can beat the other person in 5 mintues and 22 seconds.

Starcraft for me was all about the fun of the gameplay, not how fast you can beat your opponents. In other words, I don't play competitively at all in starcraft.
Like you, I used to play SC for fun, never laddered and probably swore off playing against people because I kept losing so I stuck to playing through SP and playing with friends and others against AI. Favourite was 2vs6c on fastest map possible XD

Having said that, playing 1vs1 in SCII, I'm really enjoying the challenge. I don't win every game and only silver atm but switching from only Z to random really opened the game up to me. I've tried wrap prisms+dts, a colossi ball, MMM ball, drops, nydus worming a base, etc.... People think they need to stick to the same strategy but they don't have to. Try out different strats, have some fun in your games, etc.... Forget about losing, just work on getting your macro/micro up to pace and tried fun strats, you'll appreciate the game that much more. Example, I tried nuking a protoss friend who recently switched from T yesterday. Guess what? He's never seen nukes in a PvsT game before, so, I took out over 25+ probes and was constantly making nukes. He wasn't able to get up my ramp because I was making a lot of MM and placing it near edge to get extra shots in. I ended up taking the game. We also have an overclock.net channel, join us, watch some of the guys play, play yourself, talk SCII or whatever, enjoy!

Just download the demo for unlimited play against computers and get a trial somewhere to be able to play multiplayer for 7 hours.

I beg to differ. There are many US Armed Forces who play starcraft in Korea with the American Version, as there are many Koreans in the states who have ordered the US version. So it is safe to say you have an amalgamation of many people on many servers...around the world.

Just to clarify, I think by "trial" people are referring to guest passes, which some people may have, allowing you the full game for so many hours. There's also a demo, which has no time limit, but is pretty limited.
