I am getting a new SSD! Need Some Help!

Thread Starter
I am wanting to get an SSD To replace my 320GB WD Caviar Blue HDD as a primary drive.

My first choice that I was looking at was the "Crucial RealSSD C300"

Sequential Access - Read:
355MB/sec (SATA 6Gb/s) 265MB/sec (SATA 3Gb/s)

Sequential Access - Write:
75MB/sec (SATA 6Gb/s) 75MB/sec (SATA 3Gb/s)

Now the one thing I like about this is the Read Speed is 355MB/sec But Thats For SATA 6Gb/s and since I have a Biostar 890FX I only have support for SATA 3Gb/s

My Second Choice is the "SAMSUNG 470 Series"

Sequential Access -
Read: up to 250MB/s

Sequential Access -
Write: up to 170MB/s

My only concern is that I haven't heard much about the Samsung SSD Drives. But maybe cause I haven't explored it enough. Like G Skill Ram, I didn't know **** about them till I actually spent the time to learn.

Let me know what you think I should get as a primary SSD.

1. I want enough storage to put my OS, Games, Programs and other things on.

2. For All Music, Movies and Media I will put that on my Backup 320GB WD Caviar Blue.

3. TY OCN ^_^

Your mobo is 890FX/850, so, support both SATA 3Gb/s and SATA 6Gb/s

I have a 64GB with OS and applications, with 12GB free space BUT without games installed on it. If you want install the games on it (Won't give you any performance increase, just faster load times) the 128GB version is a good option.

Finally, Micron plans release the C400 series on February and Intel has the new generation at the corner to release too, so, if you really need the SSD now, get the C300 but if you can wait a little more, do it.

Had a 60GB kingston SSD in for 6 months now and use it for OS and other programs... i did install my game's but found no performance gains so re installed on my HDD...
Boots up in seconds... sometimes the windows theme music at login isn't able to keep up with the speed and plays when the desktop already up.. lol

No doubt ill upgrade to a higher GB once they come down in price.... A LOT:rolleyes:
sorry not able to help on the Samsungs models

AFAIK Samsung SSDs use a proprietary controller developed in-house so I can't comment on how they stack up compared to the Sandforce drives.

I can tell you however that since your board supports SATA 6Gb/s a Crucial C300 would probably be your best bet. Remember that the higher density C300s perform better than the lower density models so if you can afford a 128GB or 256GB version, that would be your best bet.
