USB HD TV tuner - Linux

Thread Starter
I need a HD TV USB Tuner that works under Ubuntu 10.10, Im using XBMC installed on Ubuntu 10.10. Im not too bothered if it can record HD channels. Do i need a better CPU / GPU than what is in This http://www.ebuyer.com/product/220411
to be able to play the video from TV tuners?

I have found this one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/183641 but i dont know if it will work in Ubuntu, I cannot find any information in Google about it.
I cannot use a PCI-E card because the motherboard im putting it in doesnt have any. It has a PCI-E 1x slot, but im going to put a sound card in that.

Hi Bruno2,

i'm lookin to get a tuner aswell..

I'm running an eeeBox 1501p which runs off an ION chipset, so shud give a similar reaction to urs. i'm also lookin a usb tuner as eeeboxs arent exactly comming down with pcis for me and the best info i've found on support is this site:

http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/DVB-T_USB_Devices

but some of the 1s mentioned to work here have been said not to work elsewhere with ubuntu. from reviews and things about the place Hauppauge seems to make the most compatible models u can buy for ubuntu. have yet to test this myself tho.. will be buying one this week and will let you know of my triumph or failure to get it working on my eeebox. Hauppauge does seem rather expensive tho, so here hoping...

if u find 1 tht works let me know!

****update: ***

i got a tuner from amazon : Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T USB Stick - DVB-T Digital freeview TV tuner stick. [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000F8RPQE/ref=oss_product"]Hauppauge WinTV-NOVA-T USB Stick - DVB-T Digital freeview TV tuner stick: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories[/ame]

tht works fine on ubuntu 10.10. it appears to have support for freesat HD, however i lack the satellite to test if it works in practice...
