dude, i wasnt bashing any game in your quote. Its not bashing wow when i am stating facts. Massive popularity is no guarantee that it is a game for him.

What does wow have that lotro doesnt, honestly? I know what lotro has that wow doesnt. 1. deep and interesting storyline, they have a very scripted storyline that is both focused on group play and solo play. With regular quests that also provide backstory and tie into the game. Wow has nothing comparable to them. NOTHING. If you took the lotro story questline, you have what would be considering a full complete game if it were handled like a cod game or such with all the scripting and voice acting. 2. Weapons that gain experience and you can add and remove buffs from them. It makes every character pretty unique because everyone doesnt run around with the same armor and weapons, and players are always on the look out for a new weapon that might have stats for their alternate builds or improving on their existing weapons.

lotro isnt even the game i suggested. i suggested DDO, because i find its game mechanics fantastic, and the character building unparalled.

LOTRO Free. I hated STO, WOW, but have been happy with LOTRO. Maybe its cause the price is right.

Well, while I admit that LOTRO obviously wins on storyline (they'd have to literally take a crap on the book to screw it up), it doesn't mean that WoW's is crap. I've read a couple of the books, and they're not bad. Again, compare it to LOTR and it won't look like much, but c'mon, that's LOTR. Compare any game storyline to LOTR and it doesn't hold much water. WoW still has a pretty damn good storyline for a video game series.

The buffs on the weapons isn't correct though. You can enchant weapons whenever you want (as long as you are/have an enchanter with you, or have enchanting scrolls) with any stat (and a couple of effect, and whatnot).

The uniqueness of characters... Meh. Never really bothered me back when I played. Then again, I was playing one of the rarer classes and specs, fulltime.

the weapon buffs are entirely different. You find weapons that need to be identified, and once identified it has a several legacies, these legacies increase your skills and stats, you can spend xp gained on increasing those legacies, and you are always on the look out for another weapon with better or different legacies. And you level them up, like its a character.

Personally for me i'd have to say EVE online. Its completely different from all the wow clones (or who ever did it first). Games with trolls and elves with fireballs emanating from their ass...The industry is just saturated with so many of these clones, it just doesnt seem worthwhile.
EVE online i've found to be pretty unique. From the many activities and things you can do in the game it would take a good few months to exhaust just one of these activities, but then theres always something else you can do that will keep you entertained. Thats how deep and immersive the game is theres always something new to try out and for the most part its completely original compared to other mmo's.
Another thing i like is you actually get rewarded for showing intelligence which is rare in most mmo's which focus on superficial gameplay mechanics.

Dark age of Camelot (for the pros)
as for free to play, knight online (for the pros)
Both are very hard games but from my experience has the most skilled players. If you want to work well as a team then try those two.

WOW is the best for paid, once you hit the level cap and get to play what is the real game, imo.

As for free, it's whatever you can find a good group of people to play with, paid or free. MMorpg's are a drag going solo, get a fun guild and you can have ALOT of fun though.
