I just found out the Alienware M11x's are starting at $599. I have $380 right now and I'm going to be selling my old rig for hopefully $350 and 1 guitar for $75. I don't know when I'm selling my old rig but hopefully soon.

I'm torn between two laptops at this point. In your honest opinions, which do you think is best and what would you pick?

Alienware M11x

-Intel Core2Duo SU7300 1.3GHz (3MB Cache) overclockable to 1.7GHz
-Nvidia GeForce GT 335M 1GB GDDR3
-2GB DDR3 800MHz (would upgrade later)
-250GB 7200RPM HDD
$649.99

OR

Acer Aspire AS7551G-6477

-AMD Phenom II Triple Core 2.2Ghz
-AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1GB GDDR3
-4GB DDR3
-500GB 5400RPM HDD
-17.3''
$649.99

I would really like some input and votes on what you guys think is best. I've always wanted an Alienware and it seems the Acer has better specs in some spots but I like the mobility the M11x also has to offer due to its size. I'm also aware of hinge issues I've had the same problem happen on my old laptop and it didnt bother me.

I would have to say the M11x, even though a recent problem with Dell/Alienware in my thread on this forum if you want to check it out. I love the size of the M11x, buddy at work has one and it really is sleek

Edit: Sorry for some reason I thought the M11x did come with an i5 option.. now I cant seem to find it , sorry for the mis information

I couldve sworn it did when they came out with the r2's though it may have been a temporary thing...

I loved gaming on it, it handled everything fairly well except for Sc2, though that is a very cpu intensive game.

The thing that killed it for me was the hinges, I noticed mine was resisting too much and splitting at the seems slowly, so I sold it for 850 I had an ssd in it though :/

Did you ever play any Steam games on it like Half Life 2 series, TF2, etc?

The M11x can run those steam games just fine, it even runs crysis (on low but it does) the only thing as TheReciever said is the hinges problem, that sucks if you ask me... I voted for the Acer

My hinges started going on my old Acer then I sold it for $160 because it was getting old and there was nothing I could really play on it in the first place and I thought I was gonna get a new laptop but I never did.

Thanks for your vote! The specs on the Acer are really impressive too and its a really hard decision to choose from.

I would never buy a laptop with a screen larger than 15" but in this case I would go with the Acer...

I have to admin I am an anti-Alienware fanboy.

What's the problem with Alienwares? I'm curious because some people hate them, and some people love them. Alienware Desktops are one reason I wouldnt buy one because I could save money and build a desktop instead. I'l never buy a desktop from a store ever again. Laptops are different because you cant really build them like desktops.

All what you prefer i guess, some people hate the way they look. I got mine in the mail today, its a very very sleek looking laptop. Having never seen one in person i was unsure what to expect, but in my opinion it looks even better than the pictures.

Cant comment on the hinge problems because mine is so new, but i purchased the extended warranty warranty so it was really a non factor in my buying decision.

I would say get whatever makes you happy, the m11x has a resolution of 1368x768 i believe... not sure what the resolution is on the acer, but i agree with the one poster in that i wouldnt buy a laptop over 15". The 2gb ram on the alienware is easily upgradable, and with ram prices the way they are, pretty cheap as well.

If you have a credit card that extends the warranty by 1 year, i would also use that regardless of the choice you make.

Good luck with your decision.
