MX518 to Steelseries Xai?

Thread Starter
I currently have an MX518 and I'm using an ALLSOP surface (http://www.allsop.com/classic-mousepads/charcoal-metal-art-mouse-pad/), which I have no idea how I acquired! I'm thinking of upgrading to a Xai and a 9HD or SX surface.

1) this is worthwhile upgrade, right?

2) are both surfaces equally suitable for the Xai?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

1) If you don't have any problems with the MX518 then you should stick with it. Otherwise, the Xai is a worthy investment like many other users here.
2) Yes both the 9HD and SX work really well with the Xai due to the Avago ADNS-9500 sensor in it.

As I have just found that the MX518 works better (less 'sticky' friction) directly on my desk than on the mouse surface that I have I think perhaps just a new surface is required. I'll have a browse of the threads to see what is recommended for the MX518.

Xai is the worst mouse I've ever had, I didn't even bother selling it when I replaced it with my MX518.

And heres why:
- Tracking glitches, major tracking glitches..

To stop these tracking glitches (for few minutes) I've got two options.
- Unplug and plug the mouse
or
- Smash it to the table (about as hard as when you high five your mate after your team just won a game)

Guess which way I used..

Yeah, most mice have tracking glitches, major tracking glitches when you smash it on your table. Lol

i have a xai and used to have a g5 that I held onto for years due to the perfect size grip for me but the xai took it's place.

Xai is a fantastic mouse, pairs up amazingly with the Steelseries 4HD, the only issues are the horrendous drivers, it took me 3 formats before it would actually start saving profiles, and it failed the firmware flash, yet maintains the latest firmware?

I dunno, apart from that I love mine, works great coming from a G9 user.

User error.

Seriously, I myself went from the MX518 to the Xai and have never looked back. If you are worried about drivers then don't use them. By the way I use the Xai with the 4HD mouse pad like previous people have mentioned.

Profiles cannot be created without them. Sorta defeats the purpose if you are used to 1600 dpi or such, but afterwards you probably won't need to install them ever again, so thats another good thing.
